The and#8220;Yand#8221; Foundation’s creative writing contest winner announced

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; This past March, writers within a 105 mile-radius of Downtown Truckee were invited to enter The and#8220;Yand#8221; Foundationand#8217;s creative writing contest. The winning piece, selected by The and#8220;Yand#8221; Foundationand#8217;s judges, is an essay written by Jacqueline Ginley about what life in Truckee means to her. Ginley will receive a $750 scholarship to attend the Squaw Valley Writerand#8217;s Workshop this July. and#8220;I am so grateful, and I hope my work and#8212; this summer at Squaw and beyond and#8212; pays fitting tribute to Katy and her love of writing,and#8221; said Ginley.

About the winner

Jacqueline Ginley is a journalist with a particular passion for fiction. and#8220;Paradoxical as it might seem, I think fiction is a beautiful way of experiencing the emotional truth of life,and#8221; she stated. Yet it was her nonfiction essay that was the winning piece for The and#8220;Yand#8221; Foundationand#8217;s scholarship this year. Ginley says her essay sums up how she feels about Truckee. She especially appreciates the regionand#8217;s easily accessible trails and backcountry areas. and#8220;Nothing beats a powder day or a swim in Donner Lake on a hot summer afternoon.and#8221; Ginleyand#8217;s family includes two dogs; an old chocolate lab who loves to swim and a young red Doberman who loves to bark.
