The Dreaming Tree: Exploring art in the great outdoors
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Trails and Vistasand#8217; Dreaming Tree art hikes offers adults and children an opportunity to venture into nature and step into an experience that honors creativity, original art work and the majestic surroundings on Donner Summit on Sept. 8 and 9. The guided art hikes are led by trained trail leaders who are passionate about Trails and Vistas mission to create art experiences in nature that inspire environmental awareness.
The Dreaming Tree themed art hikes last about two and half hours and begin and end at Donner Ski Ranch. Eight of the scheduled hikes have already sold out for this weekend but people can still secure a spot on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning hikes by purchasing tickets online at trailsandvistas.org.
and#8220;Our trail leaders will quietly guide the two-mile journey with a sense of wonder and stillness. Prepare to leave behind the sounds of the road and any clutter in your own mind to be more emotionally present and enjoy the land and art,and#8221; said Nancy Tieken Lopez, the artistic director of Trails and Vistas who began designing art hikes while earning a Masters of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University.
Hikes depart every 15 minutes and each small group that is guided along the trail will be invited to slow down, breathe deeply and completely, effortlessly enjoy the calm, the breezes and the downright magical, colorful and unforgettable performances along the way. There are dozen stops along the hike and each stops featured original art, music, dance, storytelling or poetry.
Participating artists include Truckee Tahoe residents and performers from Reno, Northern California and Utah. The Dreaming artists include Blackhawk, Jayatu, Banana Slug String Band, Sonja Brodt from Ecokinesis Dance Company with Meri Superak, Billy Bensing and Kellie Garmire, Louis Valentine Johnson, Angelique Benicio, Jean Louise Fournier, Cathee vanRossem-St.Clair, Kira Catanzaro, InnerRhythms Dance Theatre and Emily Tessmer.
and#8220;Melodies from the heart, birds, skies, lakes, harmonies, trees, rhythms and mountains will meld together in your imagination to become one gorgeous moment of reality,and#8221; said Johnson, a musician from Grass Valley.
Attendees may chose from one of the many specialty options including family hikes, leisurely paced hikes for those seeking a slower pace and adults-only hikes with an emphasis on yoga and meditation. The family friendly experience provided during Trails and Vistas family hikes at 1, 1:15 and 3:45 p.m. on Saturday and 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, will pleasantly surprise parents. Lopez describes the family hikes as playful and inquisitive and encourages families attending with children to choose one of the family hikes.
