The Sun will see you on Saturday

Nearly two years ago the Sierra Sun became a five-day daily newspaper,

encompassing the north and west shores of Lake Tahoe as well as Truckee. And as you’ve probably noticed, the Sun’s content ” as well as the strategy for going daily ” isn’t written on a stone tablet.

So as we near 24 months since the Sun made the big change, we’re making another change to build a better daily newspaper. Starting this weekend the Sierra Sun will offer a Saturday paper, and switch to printing Tuesday through Saturday. We’re still five days, but switching Monday out for Saturday is a change nonetheless.

Change is tough, and in the last two years the paper and our community have seen a lot of it. It’s very likely your business or employer has changed strategy to adjust to the economic reality that’s set in over the last six to eight months. Even though the Sierra Sun plays a active role in Truckee-Tahoe’s public discourse, the newspaper

is a business.

And just like your store, service or organization that must adapt to the times in order to thrive, we have to as well.

The Sierra Sun ” or any newspaper for that matter ” isn’t carved in stone. Since the Sun went daily we’ve noted that it will be a process; a work in progress. It is not perfect; it never will be. We try things, we tweak, we try new things, we tweak. Perfection is a moving target and we’ll keep reaching for it daily. Now it will be Tuesday through Saturday.

With our visitor and second-home owner demographic, a different and diverse collection of people pick up the paper each issue. That is a very unique aspect of our market and one of the reasons Saturday makes good business sense for the paper.

Ultimately, though, our ongoing mission continues to bring the conversations taking place between Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Truckee and all points in between together providing timely information to every one of our readers.
