Timberland partners with Tahoe-Truckee nonprofits to encourage fitness and nutrition
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; As part of The Timberland Companyandamp;#8217;s Fall 2011 national sales meeting, Timberland employees are supporting projects to promote fitness and nutrition and help fight youth obesity. The events will bring together Timberland employees, community members and volunteers to help deliver on Timberlandandamp;#8217;s commitment to community service.At the Boys andamp; Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, 8125 Steelhead Ave., Kings Beach, participants will transform two portable classrooms into workout and fitness rooms and renovate a teen area into an inviting educational space. At the Community Arts Center in Truckee, volunteers will engage in a Food, Fun and Fitness Faire to celebrate reading, staying active and eating healthy. Faire participants will learn how to stay active in the winter, make snow shoes with recycled materials, prepare and enjoy healthy snacks, meals and participate in a literacy reading circle with each child receiving a book.The Boys andamp; Girls Club provides 800 families from across the region with crucial youth development services and child care for youth ages 5-18. The Family Resource Center of Truckee, Project MANA, as well as Truckee Community Christmas have all partnered with Timberland to reach out to the community to make this Faire a success.andamp;#8212; Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.com
