Trails and Vistas theme contest

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Trails and Vistas art hike will grace Spooner Lake Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011. The contest to create this yearand#8217;s theme is open to all ages and the deadline is April 15, 2011.

and#8220;Trails and Vistas is a magical and transformative experience for the audience and participating artists. I invite all ages to embrace their individual creativity and connection to the natural world and submit a theme for this yearand#8217;s art hike,and#8221; said Nancy Tieken Lopez, Trails and Vistas artistic director.

The contest

What do you want to experience during this yearand#8217;s art hike? Are you moved by the plight of projected park closures and open to somber music and movements expressing loss? Do you aspire to celebrate the rhythm of love, leaving the heavyhearted thoughts in the distance for an afternoon? Let your creative juices flow. The chosen theme will set the tone for the September 2011 art hike. Previous themes have included and#8220;If Dreams were Clouds,and#8221; and#8220;Songs of the Earth,and#8221; and and#8220;Wind over Stone.and#8221;

Submit a theme to info@trailsandvistas.org by midnight Friday, April 15, 2011. E-mail your full name, age, phone number, theme tagline in four words or less, and a short description no more than a few sentences or 150 words. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to Trails and Vistas 2011 ($60 value). The winner will be announced April 20 and recognized on the Trails and Vistas Facebook page and web site.

Art hike experience

Audience members will hike in small groups pausing at performances and other artistic creations along a gentle guided two and a half mile hike. Trails and Vistasand#8217; audience will experience art in nature with sculpture, music, dance and poetry in a completely new and inspiring way during the 2011 hike at Spooner Lake, a well-loved hiking, equestrian and mountain biking area in the Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park system (located near the intersection of State Route 28 and U.S. 50).

Volunteer opportunities

This summer Trails and Vistas will provide active guide training for all interested hike leaders. This is a great opportunity for ages 18 and above who are outgoing, enjoy walking and can engage people in the wonders of nature and art. A trail hike script and practice hike opportunities are provided. Trails and Vistas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that combines hiking with artistic expression. Trails and Vistas mission is to create art experiences in nature that inspire environmental awareness.
