Truckee Chili Cookoff adds contestants
TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club has added exciting new contestants to this yearand#8217;s Truckee Chili Cookoff.
In the Restaurant category Bud Haley of JAX on the Tracks will defend his title against new competitors Full Belly Deli, Zanoand#8217;s, Renoand#8217;s BBQ House and Royal Gorgeand#8217;s Ice Lakes Lodge.
The Truckee Chili Cookoff will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 27 at the Truckee Regional Park.
Among those competing in the Nonprofit category will be the U. S. Forest Service, the Truckee Firefighters Association and the crew at the Truckee Donner Public Utility District.
A number of local individuals have challenged the professionals in their category. Last yearand#8217;s Individual winner Ryan and#8220;Happyand#8221; Gilmore will compete along with the Grand Champion Team Poets on Payday.
Tickets for unlimited chili tasting are $10 for adults and children under 12 are free and are available from the Truckee Donner Chamber in the old Depot, any Sunrise Rotarian and on the event website, http://www.TruckeeChiliCookoff.org.
Tickets will also be available at the event.
Generous area merchants will also be selling tickets. Look for the Truckee Chili Cookoff poster in their windows.
This community fundraiser will provide a day of family fun with chili tasting, non-stop entertainment, food and beverages and a host of activities for adults and children alike.
The area’s best chili cooks will compete for top honors in these categories: Restaurants, Nonprofits and Individuals plus Best Overall. In addition, a Peopleand#8217;s Choice award will recognize the chili garnering the most votes from attendees and there will be an award for best cooking team theme.
A panel of area dignitaries will judge the chili and make the awards.
All proceeds benefit Truckee-North Tahoe programs addressing the needs of youth, economically disadvantaged and elderly. The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club has been supporting our community since 1993.
