Truckee CrossFit has new coach
This February Christie Coker of Truckee attended her Level One CrossFit Instructor/Trainer Course and is now certified to teach the CrossFit Method.
What is CrossFit? CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program designed to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program, but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of 10 recognized fitness domains: Cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. The CrossFit prescription is and#8220;constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity.and#8221; CrossFit believes preparation for random physical challenges and#8212; i.e., unknown and unknowable events and#8212; is at odds with fixed, predictable, and routine regimens. This method of training stimulates the athlete to be ready for the unknown and trained at multiple levels. The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. It uses same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. It scales load and intensity; so there is no need to change programs. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.
The CrossFit creed is Constantly Varied Functional Movements Executed at High Intensity. Constantly varied means the workouts are always changing so there are no monotonous routines to be performed day after day. Keeping the workout varied keeps it fun and interesting and helps train each recognized fitness domains. Functional movements implies that the exercises performed actually have a real world application. An example would be the squat. How many times a day do you squat? Do you bend over to pick up your child or perhaps a bag of dog food?
Compare and contrast that with a machine that isolates your hamstring or quad? How many times a day do you perform such an isolated movement? Executed at a high intensity makes it a complete workout. In CrossFit the goal is to increase your power!
Who is it for? Everyone from the Fitness Adrenaline Junkie, the Elite Athlete, the Housewife, the Fireman, the Grandparent and the child. Since CrossFit trains movements, not muscles, all workout can be scaled to your individual fitness needs.
