Sun staff report

The Truckee Community Garden has been hopping away behind the scenes with many changes. They now have an amazing new member on the gardening team, Kathy Taylor, master gardener. Taylor was hired April 1 to help bring expertise, guidance and more fun to the gardening year. She will set weekly and#8220;office hoursand#8221; to answer questions and teaching gardening skills.

The Truckee Community Garden was also the recipient of two grants, Truckee Rotary Foundation and Lake of the Sky Garden Club, this year and several private donations. We were able to hire Kathy and begin the process of amending soil, sprouting high altitude plants, and creating a more interactive learning site at the garden. TCG is grateful for community support, in both donations and hard work.

This year the Truckee Community Garden is opening up membership opportunities for 30 lucky, lucky people. If you are interested in learning how to garden or just want to share your skills in gardening with a great group of people, please call 530-582-4079 to receive an application and membership guidelines.

Just canand#8217;t wait to get your hands in the dirt? Well here is your opportunity! The garden will open with a fiesta Thursday, May 19, 9 a.m.-noon with a membership orientation meeting, applications and then straight to fun in the garden. Bring $35 to secure your spot.

An additional Fiesta is scheduled for Sunday, May 22, noon-2 p.m., following the same structure with a membership orientation and work party.
