Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce introduces the ‘Wear the Bear’ program

TRUCKEE – The Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Truckee, California Travel & Tourism Commission (CTTC), and Certified Folder Display Service, manages and operates the California Welcome Center (CWC) in historic Downtown Truckee. It is one of 18 CWC’s operated throughout the state of California.Since the designation as a California Welcome Center, with prominent signage on Interstate 80 and promotion through CTTC, annual visitation has increased by 34 percent. The Truckee Welcome Center has one of the highest visitations of all 18 CWCs, receiving more than 60,000 visitors each year.The Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce is introducing the “Wear the Bear” program that provides CWC visitors with discounts or special offers at local businesses. CWC visitors will be identified by a sticker with the California Welcome Center logo.”Other California Welcome Centers such as Santa Rosa have a Wear the Bear or discount program for their visitors,” explains Lynn Saunders, Truckee Chamber president/CEO. “It has proven to be an excellent way to encourage CWC visitors to utilize local businesses, and provides a trackable mechanism for businesses and the Chamber to quantify the value of the California Welcome Center.”Survey of California Welcome Center visitors shows 77 percent report visiting a featured attraction or activity and 56 percent purchased something because of their visit.
