Truckee Donner Historical Society: Docent training day
Join Museum Curator and TDHS President Chelsea Walterscheid Saturday, April 24, 2-4 p.m. at the Old Jail Museum. Learn the trade secrets of our experienced docents as you discover the inside track to Truckeeand#8217;s notorious and infamous history.-
TDHS board members have worked weekly this winter taking inventory and putting the Old Jail back together. Displays and wall hangings had to come down when the Old Jail got a new roof last Fall.-
Docent shifts are modest, only two 2.5 hours on Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. The first weekend of operation will be Memorial Day weekend, May 29 and 30. After that the Old Jail will re-open for the rest of the summer season starting Saturday, June 12.
If weekends arenand#8217;t your thing, TDHS has cooperated with the Truckee Downtown Merchants during Truckee Thursdays by opening the Old Jail 4-6 p.m. to allow docents plenty of time for the remainder of the evening to enjoy the local food, shopping, live entertainment and special events held each week.

No prior experience is required except for possessing an interest to learn about Truckee and itand#8217;s beginnings. This is also a great event for our current roster of docents to use as a refresher course. Free training is provided and an experienced docent will work hands-on with you until you feel comfortable to winging it on your own. Donand#8217;t think you need to know it all to start volunteering. There is plenty of information inside the Old Jail for you to read during your shift and/or share with our visitors.
Docents work in pairs for each shift so if you have a friend, spouse or significant other who may be interested to work, bring them along. Guaranteed you will meet the most interesting people from all over the world as you spend time at the Old Jail Museum.-
