Truckee Optimist Club announces spring/summer events and fundraisers

TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; The Truckee Optimist Club is pleased to announce their upcoming spring and summer community events and fundraisers.The clubandamp;#8217;s members completed their first annual Sports Equipment Drive at Truckee Regional Park during the annual Easter Egg hunt at Truckee Regional Park. Club members collected donations of sports equipment and purchased additional equipment to be handed out free of charge to youngsters in the community who did not have balls, gloves, bats, etc. Next up, the club will once again be barbecuing the lunch at Regional Park for participants of Truckee Clean-up Day on Saturday, June 2. Last year the club served approximately 700 lunches to the volunteers who helped clean the streets of Truckee.On June 9 the Truckee Optimist Club will hold their 7th Annual Truckee Brew Fest at Truckee Regional Park, 1-5 p.m. The Brew Fest will feature tasting of specialty brews from Northern California and Nevada breweries, live music by Drop Theory, a popular local funk-rock band. Brews, brats, silent auction, collector tasting glass, and lots of fun on the lawn at Truckee Regional Park. This is a great way to kick off the summer. Advance tickets are $25, $30 at the gate.The Cannibal Cruise Car Show was put on hold this summer and in its place the Optimist Club decided to become a part of the Inaugural Truckee Tahoe AirFair andamp; Family Festival on Saturday, July 7. This new event has combined the backing and financial commitment of the Truckee Tahoe Airport District along with the logistical and planning support of the Experimental Aircraft Association (Chapter 1073), KidZone Museum and the Truckee Optimist Club. Parking and admission will be free.Finally on the weekend of July 14 and 15, the Optimist Club will run the 15th Annual andamp;#8220;Old Buddiesandamp;#8221; softball tournament at Regional Park.
