Truckee RibFest on tap for Father’s Day

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Make plans to attend the second annual Truckee RibFest set for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, 1-6 p.m. at Citizens Bank Plaza. Surprise the beloved dad in your life with tickets tucked into his Father’s Day card.

This fun and casual foodie event offers delicious rib samplers prepared by noted barbecued rib chefs battling it out for top honors. Competing this year are Men Wielding Fire, Kinders, The Char Pit, Six Peaks Grille of the Resort at Squaw Creek, Smokey’s Kitchen and JAX. The ribs prepared by participating chefs will be judged by Sierra Sun publisher Michael Gelbman, TTUSD superintendent Steve Jennings, Tahoe Quarterly publisher Chaco Mohler, Nevada County Supervisor Ted Owens, and Reno/Tahoe edible magazine publisher Jaci Goodman, along with one lucky dad who is nominated by his adoring child. Send your nomination to jenny@switchbackpr.com by June 15.

Truckee High School Boosters Club was selected to be this year’s event nonprofit beneficiary. Truckee Boosters supports clubs and athletics at Truckee High through fundraising and volunteer support.

Adult admission is $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. Admission includes entry, plus two food tickets. Each two-rib sampler costs two tickets. Tasty sides can be purchased for one ticket. Admission for children 12 and under is $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the event. Children’s tickets include entry, access to a fun activity center, plus one special food ticket that can be redeemed for hot dogs, pizza and other kid-friendly options. And for the many folks who won’t be satisfied with just one two-rib sampler, additional food tickets are available at $5 for two tickets.

The Truckee RibFest provides the perfect Father’s Day afternoon outing for hungry dads and their families. Plan to attend and cast your vote for the People’s Choice award. Rounding out the festivities are a beer garden, bounce houses for kids big and small, live music by The Deckheads and face painting and movement activities provided by Inner Rhythms.
