Truckee Rotary Foundation seeks grant requests

Staff reportsThere are less than two weeks until the Truckee Rotary Foundation’s grant request deadline. The foundation’s grants are intended for individuals or unique projects that are not of a social nature and do not already receive funds from other organizations, said Paul Duggan, treasurer of the Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club. This year the foundation has $3,000 to donate for projects, which average about $475.The deadline for a grant application is Nov. 28.Some past grant recipients include computers, book purchases, scholarships and tattoo removal for ex-gang kids. The foundation, Duggan said, attempts to focus on one-time grants with wide impact, so requests to support ongoing operations are discouraged. The Sunrise Rotary teamed up with the Truckee Rotary Club in 1990 to form the Truckee Rotary Foundation. Since then the foundation has funded $31,000 in individual grants to recipients in the Truckee community, Duggan said.Funds are distributed once a year and are generated from interest and profits made from the foundation’s investments during the year.Any organization or individual may submit an application in writing to the Truckee Rotary Foundation, care of Steve Randall at P.O. Box 3236, Truckee, CA 96160. Applications should include a short description of the project or need; amount requested; the name of the contact person; and a telephone number.Questions should be directed to Randall at 582-7720. The deadline is Nov. 28.
