‘Truckee: Spirit of the Sierra’ theme of Fourth of July parade

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Plans are underway for Truckee’s annual Fourth of July Parade, and 2012 brings a few changes to the community event. This year the parade will be produced by the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association in conjunction with the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Truckee.

Also new this year is a “post parade party” planned in Downtown Truckee, in the parking lot next to the train depot, so the festivities will continue past the parade ending. Plan on spending the afternoon in Historic Downtown, and enjoy live music, Fourth of July specials throughout downtown and more. The party is tentatively scheduled for noon-3 p.m. Parade awards will be announced at noon, kicking off the party!

Parade participants are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited. Entry fee is $50 and entries will be accepted through June 28. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the former Sierra Mountain Middle School and progresses down Donner Pass Road into historic Truckee, ending around noon.

Help preserve this hometown event. Sponsorship support is critical to help offset costs and offers exposure to thousands of parade attendees. All sponsors will receive recognition in parade publicity, on the TDMA website, in newsletters and email broadcasts, and from the parade emcee. Volunteers are also needed to help stage the parade, do patrols along the parade route, and to assist after the event.

Contact the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association at info@historictruckee.com for additional information or to secure a sponsorship / registration form. Or stop by the TDMA office above Burger Me! to pick up an entry form, to volunteer or to discuss sponsorship opportunities. Forms are also available at the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce office and http://www.HistoricTruckee.com.

The 2012 Fourth of July parade is produced by the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association, a non-profit 501 (c) 6 organization that works for the economic, social, cultural and environmental vitality of historic Downtown Truckee.

An older friend I made when I began here in 2016 called the other day to talk about the paper. I hadn’t heard from her in awhile and, well, I’ve been here just long enough…
