Northstar Resort to host their annual Fire andamp; Ice New Year’s party featuring live music, fire dancers, fireworks, drink specials, shopping, dining and skating. The party starts at 2 p.m. with live music by Shotgun Wedding Quintet with fireworks display at 9 p.m., weather permitting. The party continues with live music at Baxter’s Bistro andamp; Lounge.
Torchlight Parade on New Year’s Eve, celebrate from 4-8 p.m., Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area, 11603 Snowpeak Way, Truckee. This event is for intermediate skiers or riders ages 10 or older who can ski or ride unassisted in the dark on our Racecourse run. Come early to secure a spot in the parade. A DJ and snacks will be provided in the bar area prior to the parade. Sign-up is from 4 to 6 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. start time. Call 587-9444.
Resort at Squaw Creek reprises its annual New Year’s Eve Family Celebration, which is held in the Grand Sierra Ballroom from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Dec. 31. DJ Ty Kirkpatrick will spin tunes with video support for a celebratory evening of dance, desserts and toasts. First toast and balloon drop with sparkling apple cider at 9 p.m., second drop and sparkling wine toast at midnight. Adults are $38; children 4 to 12 years are $22; children 3 and under are free. The Monthly Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to benefit the Senior Meals program and the Meals on Wheels will be held on Jan. 3 from 8 until 11:30 a.m. in the dining room of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments at 10040 Estates Drive in Truckee. This month’s sponsor is the Truckee Noon Rotary. Open to everyone! Adults $7, children $3. Come early.
Discounted lift tickets benefit schools, skiers and snowboarders. Participating resorts offer special discounted lift tickets and the opportunity to support Excellence in Education Foundation, which provides enhanced educational opportunities for local students.
