First Five of Nevada County will bring their Health Van Express to the KidZone Museum, 11711 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, Thursday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is free and will provide parents with information on programs and resources available to them including WIC and Healthy Families. Collect information and join activities on nutrition, health and pre-school education. Call 587-5437 for information.

Rideout is pleased to offer a preventive health event to help you avoid a stroke. Life Line Screening will host their affordable, non-invasive, painless health screenings on Thursday, June 10. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, abdominal aortic aneurysms, hardening of the arteries in the legs, irregular heartbeat, and a bone density screening used to check for osteoporosis. The first four tests are only $139; add an osteoporosis screening for only $10 more. Pre-registration is required at (800) 324-1851.



Each summer, the Truckee area routinely has one or more cases of hantavirus, plague or tick-borne relapsing fever. The Nevada County Vector Control Program has scheduled a free talk with Joshua Ogawa, Ph.D., California Department of Public Health Biologist at the Truckee Donner Public Utility District, 11570 Donner Pass Road, Tuesday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. Joshua will be giving a slide presentation on each disease and talk about how to protect your family and your home. The 2010 Charleston Sage classic will be held to defray medical costs for the Goeppert family, whose son Charleston Sage Goeppert was born with a rare genetic disorder: Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The Monday June 28 golf tournament will be a scramble format, with a barbecue and silent auction immediately following. Parents Ashley, who worked as an RN until she was needed to care for their son 24/7, and Cameron Goeppert, who is a volunteer paramedic with Verdi Fire could use your help. Cost is $110 per person, or $440 per foursome. Silent auction donations, monetary donations also welcome. The community is invited to attend an open workshop to introduce the Tahoe Forest Hospital campus development plan. Presentations will be made by Tahoe Forest Hospital’s facility Development team and will include a question and answer session and opportunity for input that will be forwarded to the Tahoe Forest Hospital District Board of Directors. Whether youandamp;#8217;re a young athlete looking to make the jump to competitive high school sports, or someone wanting to build strength and learn how to train for any activity, this class is for you! Open to 13-17 year olds, this new program is an introduction to weight training and conditioning, utilizing safe, easy-to-use resistance machines and a variety of free and body weight exercises. First session runs June 17-July 16. Second session: July 21- Aug. 15. Classes are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings 10-11:15 a.m. Cost is $115 per month session.
