Organic Gardening and Landscaping Basics Dirt First! will be offered by Villager Nursery, 10678 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, May 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. Rob and Eric will cover the basics of sustainable gardening. Topics will include soils, soil biology, cultural practices, pest prevention and natural pest control. Discuss native and drought tolerant plants. Also organic potting soils, bio-active fertilizers, natural soil amendments and mulch. These two have degrees and advanced study in botany, plant physiology, ecology, entomology, mycology, microbiology, IPM, organic chemistry and horticulture. Sitaa Lotus presents a free Parent & Me Yoga class Saturday, May 30, for children 0 to 5 years. The 30-minute class begins at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by open play time. The free class marks the end of Donner Summit Area Associations Donner Summit Winter Enrichment Program, funded through a grant from First 5 Placer. The winter program includes playgroups every Saturday and a once per month Parents Night Out along with other education opportunities for parents and kids. Back by popular demand Financial Insight and Improvement Group. Sierra Family Services in Tahoe City will once again offer this six-week program starting on Thursday, May 28. The program will be held on consecutive Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through Thursday, July 2. This new program is oriented toward individuals and couples that are experiencing negative emotions or who are overwhelmed by their current financial situations. Girls on the Run of Sierras invites the public to participate in the New Balance Girls on the Run, Sierras 5K event on Sunday, June 7 at Riverview Sports Park, Truckee, from 9 a.m. to noon. The 5K is the culminating event of the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program, which addresses girls physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual development needs and provides them with tools to face common challenges in life. The New Balance Girls on the Run 5K Fun Run includes a raffle and finish line family festival. There will be food, drinks, games, music and more fun activities for the entire family.
