Truckee Tahoe Sunshine Letters

The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation would like to thank the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors for its partnership and the success of the Martis Camp Home Tour held on Aug. 7. The Home Tour proved to be overwhelmingly successful selling more than 500 tickets and raising $26,000 for the Foundation and thus, our local schools. This yearand#8217;s fundraising event would not have been possible without the extreme generosity of Martis Camp and the homeowners who opened their magnificent homes to the Tour. We would like to extend a special thank you to the docents who volunteered the day of the event in the Tour homes and to the Home Tour committee members for the many months of volunteer hours they dedicated. Home Tour Committee members include: Lil Schaller, Don and Hale Carr, Mike Lombardi, Tilly Mezger, Allison Elder, Jennifer Boehm, Kappy Mann, Becky Kerton, Valerie Green, Lisa McPherson, Laura Brown and Heather Morgan.

It is through community partnerships like this that the Excellence in Education is able to achieve its fundraising goals. Each year the Foundation raises money and provides grants, resources and partnerships to benefit students, teachers and the TTUSD educational community as a whole.

Thank you,

Excellence in Education Foundation

Dear Editor,

Sierra Senior Services would like to thank David Rutter (a.k.a. Johnny B) and all of his energetic staff at Pete and Peterand#8217;s for their donation and support. They go above and beyond to help raise funds for our local meals and nutrition programs.

Sierra Senior Services depends on donations from community minded people like you to exist. Two of our three Meals on Wheels routes cover the north and west shores from Stateline to Tahoma with a third route covering Truckee from Hirschdale to the summit. We make sure that local seniors get the nutrition and help they need to stay in the homes they love.

In sponsoring three of the five coed Z league softball teams, I think Johnny also helps promote and#8220;active agingand#8221; since the average age has to be somewhere more than 55 these days.

Sincere thanks for all you do,

You guys rock!

Barb Young, Tahoe City

As summer comes to a close, the participants of the Sierra High School Summer Girls Activity Group would like to thank all who made the program possible. Without the support of the community we could not have continued this popular program. This year we were able to expand to two days a week of outdoor activities and weekly cooking classes. We were also able to open the program up to girls on the Lake side. The girls had a great summer thanks to the following supporters: Jane Loomis, Robin Redmond, Cindy Maciel, Stacy Taylor, Trish Baird of Tahoe Womenand#8217;s Services, Dan O of TDRPD, Kailie Sanchez of Project Mana, Doug Wright of Mountain Hardware, Nancy Minges, Summit Lotus Yogaand#8217;s Emily Weer and George Soto. A very special thank you to Soroptimist International Tahoe Donner and the Truckee Rotary for their generous financial support.

With much appreciation,

Debbi Spohr, SHS Counselor
