Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) Services of Northern California would like to thank Sarah Deardorff and the staff at Sierra Senior Services for all their work organizing the Future Fair in Kings Beach, held May 21.This was a wonderful event with tons of information about health, financial, and legal topics useful to seniors and not-quite seniors. All of it free! HICAP is rather new to the Truckee area, providing Medicare counseling at no charge to Medicare beneficiaries. At the Future Fair, we had the opportunity to present what Boomers need to know as they become eligible for Medicare. The Future Fair also provided a venue to meet with others who serve Kings Beach and Truckee, and we look forward to many opportunities for collaboration. We certainly hope this becomes an annual event, and look forward to participating next year. Events like this one shine a light on excellent community service!andamp;#8212; Margaret Reilly

Thank you to Subway, Burger Me!, Zano’s, Bill’s Rotisserie, Treat Box, Full Belly Deli, and the Lakeview Plumbing Company for your generous donations to the Alder Creek Middle School Movie Night to raise money for the people of Japan. Your donations of snacks, drinks, and food helped us raise a total of $425.50 for the people of Japan recently affected by the earthquake and tsunami. More than 100 students attended Movie Night and we could not have had the success we did without your support. All of us at Alder Creek Middle School thank you.andamp;#8212; Rachel Koles
