Truckee-Tahoe Trout says thank you
Friday April 24, 2009 was the annual Fishmas Eve celebration held at Blue Coyote in Truckee. The event is to celebrate the general fishing season opening day and to raise money for the TruckeeFTahoe Trout fund.It started three years ago as just a fun night of beer and pizza with my fly fishing buddies but has turned into a very special event. I am the owner of A Glass Act window cleaning and one of my very best clients is the Blue Coyote Sports Bar andamp; Grill. I decided to save up a few dollars and treat my friends to some food and beverages to celebrate the opening of the fishing season, hence the name Fishmas Eve! I also asked some of the local fishing businesses and guides if they would donate some goodies for a raffle at the end of the evening. It was an awesome night. The second year I decided I would try to raise some money to donate to our local Truckee Tahoe Trout Fund. I charged everyone a $10 fee at the door to help me tip the servers and there was a small donations bucket for the trout fund. At the end of the evening we had more than $300 dollars to donate to our local trout! This past Fishmas Eve was even bigger and better than the previous years. It was an amazing night with some of Northern Californias best writers, photographers, guides and anglers. At the end of the evening we had another $300 to donate to the Truckee Tahoe Trout fund. The evening was a total success. Even with this bad economy, people were still generous enough to reach into their pockets and donate whatever they could to our trout and their habitat. It is a wonderful feeling to have all of your friends all in one place at the same time to celebrate a special night and a good cause.Every year at the end of the party, I have this amazing sense of accomplishment. As I pack up my gear, I cant help but smile knowing that my goofy little party has not only made my friends happy, but also my beloved Truckee trout.I wanted to write this letter to say thank you to everyone who has helped to make the annual event a total success. I am a fortunate man to be surrounded by such amazing people and I am very proud of what Fishmas Eve has become. Fish on!Thanks to the following sponsors:Bryan Nylund and Tom Brochu, Mountain Hardware and Sports; Dave Lass, Trout Unlimited; Jamie and Kristen Lyle, Outdoor Specialty Products; Mont Hendrix, Hendrix Outdoors; Richard Anderson, California Fly Fisher; Frank Pisciotta, Thy Rod andamp; Staff guide service; Bruce Ajari; Brian Slusser, Four Seasons Guide Service; Dennis High, High Signs andamp; Graphics; A Glass Act Window Cleaning; Blue Coyote Sports Bar andamp; Grill; Dave Stanley, Reno Fly Shop. I just read Tom McClintock’s piece about inflation, and I can’t imagine he lives in the same world as I do. In his mind, sustainable (“green”) energy that offsets climate change is “bad policy.” He…
