TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8211; The results are in at the Truckee-Donner Recreation andamp; Park Districtandamp;#8217;s Indoor Track. More than 90 participants competed in the inaugural Truckeeandamp;#8217;s Biggest Winner contest, with five dedicated exercisers earning top honors. These andamp;#8220;Biggest Winnersandamp;#8221; were Otilia Ruiz, Nancy Perez, Ramona Montenegro, Patrick Mills, and Miriam Minnis. The top runner award went to Otilia Ruiz, who completed an amazing 1,736 laps (more than 144 miles) around the track during the month of February. Heading into the final day of the contest, Otilia was 304 laps out of first place. Determined to win, she blistered through 312 laps, or exactly 26 miles, to take the top spot by eight laps. The top walker was Nancy Perez, a local breast cancer survivor who used a final weekend burst of 580 laps to reach her winning total of 1,500 laps. Even more impressive, Nancy also completed two hours of Boot Camp, Jazzercise and Zumba classes each morning before walking the track. The female weight loss award went to Ramona Montenegro. After reading about the contest, she signed up for a month pass to the Track and quickly put herself in the running for three of the Biggest Winner categories (most visits, most laps, and most weight lost). After shedding 7 pounds in 28 days, she finished the month as both the female and overall weight loss winner.Ramonaandamp;#8217;s son Patrick won the male weight loss category after losing a total of 5 pounds. Patrick worked hard on the track, completing 156 laps one day and using his self-styled backward-walking technique to burn calories. Finally, the dedication award went to Miriam Minnis, who despite the two major snowstorms made it to the Track every single day in February. Like Perez, Miriam also completed fitness classes each morning in addition to her track visits. She credited her husband for his snow removal labor, which allowed her to get to the Track all 28 days of the month. For their efforts, Otilia, Ramona, Nancy, and Miriam each received free two-month memberships to the Track, while Patrick chose a three-month pass to the Truckee Community Pool. The Truckee-Donner Recreation andamp; Park District would like to congratulate all Biggest Winner participants, and thank everyone for a fun month of friendly competition. Please visit http://www.tdrpd.com or stop by the Community Recreation Center at 8924 Donner Pass Road, Truckee for fitness facility or recreation program information.andamp;#8212; Ben Bower, Fitness Instructor, Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District
