Truckee’s Alternative Holiday and Christmas Faire

Looking for a creative way to celebrate the holidays this year? Honor your loved ones with an alternative Christmas gift and make a difference in the lives of people around the world, without a trip to the mall.

The third annual Alternative Holiday and Christmas Faire sponsored by Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church will be held in Truckee on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Truckee Donner PUD Building, 11570 Donner Pass Road, Truckee.

Asante Products will be featured: Beautiful and well-made baskets, batik and tie-dyed textiles such as clothing, tablecloths, bedcovers and wall hangings, and hand-carved crafts. They are purchased directly by Asante Network from the Miichi Womenand#8217;s Group in Tanzania and NEEPU Womenand#8217;s Group in Uganda. The money the women receive helps them to feed their families, send their children to school and support AIDS orphans. Additional funds raised help build classrooms, provide scholarships, books and tools.

Also featured will be fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate. Fair trade ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee, tea and chocolate reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference between surviving or not for small-scale farmers.-

Give an animal through Heifer Project or a part of a home through Habitat for Humanity, and receive a gift card to announce the gift to your friend or loved one. Gift cards for other alternative giving opportunities will also be available.
