Truckee’s Dragonfly Restaurant to hold Guest Chef dinner Friday, June 4

Guest Chefs Ron Florian, Phyllis and Rick McConn will serve Cal-Asian with a Texas twist at Dragonfly in Truckee tonight.

TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8211;Ron Florian and Rick and Phyllis McConn will whip up their specialty andamp;#8220;Cal-Asian with a Texas twistandamp;#8221; cuisine for a return gig as guest chefs extraordinaire at Dragonfly Restaurant Friday, June 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m. As many locals know, Ron and his wife Patti Florian closed the doors to their Florian’s Fine Wines andamp; Specialty Foods recently, after a 10-year run at that location. The Florians still continue to operate a smaller rendition of Florian’s at Old Greenwood. The June 4 Guest Chef evening at Dragonfly marks Ron’s return to community events since the closing of his oft-frequented deli and specialty foods store. Featured guest chefs also include the community-minded Rick and Phyllis McConn known around town for their many hours of good works involving, most notably, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and the Truckee Noon Rotary among other organizations.Florian (Patti is out of town) and the McConns are sure to take time out from kitchen duties to provide a warm Truckee-infused greeting for all diners the evening of June 4.Here’s a sampling of what Ron, Rick and Phyllis will be cooking up in the kitchen, alongside Dragonfly’s chef and owner Billy McCullough.Appetizer: Grilled Hog Island oysters, Texas BBQ Sauce, $15Salad: Tempura Soft Shell crab, Asian noodle salad with mint, basil, roasted peanuts, $14Entrees: “Surf and Surf,” Seared diver scallop with grilled giantprawn, roasted garlic mash potatoes, baby vegetable saute, Thai herb-lemongrass sauce, $30Grilled beef tenderloin, cilantro-ginger marinated beef, roasted fingerling potatoes, sweet corn, peach salsa, hoisin glaze, $28Dessert: andamp;#8220;Almost Joy,andamp;#8221; coconut ice cream, chocolate mousse, toasted coconut, chocolate sauce, $8This scrumptious meal will be available for the pre-fixe price of $58. The full Dragonfly menu will also be available. Reservations are recommended, as guest chef evenings usually fill the house. Dragonfly Restaurant in downtown Truckee will host a benefit dinner on Monday, June 7, donating 20 percent of the evening’s proceeds to help send local students abroad this summer. Attend this benefit dinner to meet the two ambitious students who plan to tour four countries in conjunction with the People to People Ambassadorship Program.The local delegation representing the Tahoe region departs June 21 for Europe and will travel to France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Their mandate is to promote cultural understanding and generate world peace.
