Truckee’s Fourth of July Parade a huge success

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Truckee’s July 4 parade themed “Livin’ the Small Town Dream” was a smashing success. The streets were filled with shoulder to shoulder crowds, some saving their seats as early as 6 a.m.The parade, produced by the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, is a true showing of Truckee’s community spirit, small town charm, and as always is a real slice of Americana. The Wells Fargo horse-drawn stagecoach special appearance is a real crowd-pleaser. The legendary stagecoach is priceless and a true symbol of American history. And returning once again was the always popular Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band.Special award winners included Best of Show to Brown Chicken Log Works. Mayor’s Trophy – best depiction life in Truckee – was awarded to the Truckee River Drill Team.The Theme Trophy (best presentation of parade theme) was awarded to Let It Snow. The Innovation & Craftsmanship Trophy went to the Truckee Roofing Supply. Grand Marshals this year were Lisa Dobey and Debbie Cole. Joining them in the Wells Fargo Stagecoach were Citizens of the Year Laura Mohun and Jim Porter.Announcing the parade were Kane Schaller at Dickson Realty, J.D. Hoss of 101.5 FM Truckee Tahoe Radio, and keeping the downtown crowd excited was the ever-popular parade announcer Jim Simon, with music and sound system provided by James Woodruff of Crux Events. Judges this year included Mayor Richard Anderson, Carole Sesko and Wes and Tonya Beyer. Returning for their 14th year were volunteer parade coordinators Hartley and Pattie Lesser. Also announcing the parade for the television audience were Maia Schneider and Nevada County Supervisor Ted Owens for TTCTV (Truckee Tahoe Community Television). The parade was streamed live, and will be aired on their local channel.Sponsors this year included Alison Bermant, attorney at law; Clear Capital; Dickson Realty – The Schallers; Donner Lake Yacht Club; Lahontan Golf Club; Martis Camp; Mountain Hardware & Sports; Resort at Squaw Creek; Rotary Club of Truckee; Sierra Sun; Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner; Sugar Bowl; Tahoe Donner Association; Tahoe Forest Hospital District; Tahoe Oral Surgery & Implant Center; The Treehouse; Truckee Downtown Merchants Association; Truckee Physical Therapy; Truckee Tahoe Airport District and Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge.Parade entries were judged in five different categories: Commercial, Open, Youth Group, Non-Profit and Classic Auto. Entries are judged on organization of entry, public’s response, quality of preparation, and effort involved. Awards given for first place winners in all categories:
