How long have you volunteered for the California State Parks? Good question. I worked here as a paid employee, before I volunteered. Ive been volunteering about four years.What is your favorite thing about volunteering at the park?The contact with people, both the staff and visitors.What tasks do you perform?As a volunteer I work in the museum. I do retails sales, stocking, help with interpretive talks and answer questions.Whats the most unusual question youve had?Oh, there are plenty. Currently, people are concerned about the bears. Some people see them as aggressive, and they really are not.What is your favorite item for sale at the museum?Any of the books. We have a wonderful bookstore full of interesting titles.And your favorite event?The upcoming Friends of the Library event, The Emigrant Experience on Sept. 23 will be particularly interesting. It includes a Chautauqua performance.How long have you been at Donner Lake?We bought back in 87, and travel back and forth from Sacramento. The week is divided up between residences.What interests keep you busy here in Truckee?Mostly cross country skiing. My husband road and mountain bikes, and we kayak on Donner Lake. But mostly cross country skiing.What is it like to volunteer at the museum?Its a place where I receive the same kind of respect as a volunteer as an employee.
