"We Love Our Truckee" celebrated at Fourth of July Parade
TRUCKEE, Calif. – Plans are underway for another exciting Fourth of July Parade in Truckee. The parade committee expanded this year for more community involvement and is working hard to ensure this year’s parade is the finest and most entertaining parade ever.
This year’s parade theme and similar versions, “We Love our Truckee,” were nominated by several people within the community. “That theme shows what a close knit community we are, and is reflective of our community pride. Through thick and thin, it’s quite clear ‘We Love Our Truckee’,” said Lynn Saunders, President/CEO of the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce.
The parade is produced by the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce working in conjunction with the 4th of July Parade Committee and Hartley and Pattie Lesser of High Sierra Media Group.
Grand Marshals selected this year were Pam Hobday and Norm Justesen. Pam and Norm were named as “Truckee Citizens of the Year” in February by InterClub (comprised of Service Clubs in Truckee including Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner, the Truckee Lion’s Club, Truckee Sunrise Rotary, Truckee Optimist Club, and Truckee Noon Rotary).
Both Pam and Norm have spent countless volunteer hours in the support of our community. Their participation in, and organization of, different community fundraisers, have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthwhile causes in Truckee. Unfortunately Pam Hobday will be out of the country, so Norm Justesen will be the only Grand Marshal in the parade.
Parade participants are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited. Entry fee is $50 and entries will be accepted through noon, Friday, June 25.
Truckee’s July 4th parade begins at 10 a.m. at the former Sierra Mountain Middle School and progresses down Donner Pass Road into historic Truckee, ending around noon.
Sponsorships are available to help support this hometown tradition that draws up to 35,000 visitors and locals. Sponsors to date include: Rotary Club of Truckee, Martis Camp, Lahontan Golf Club, Resort at Squaw Creek, and Alison Bermant, Attorney at Law.
Contact the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce at 587-8808 or stop by the office in the Depot at 10065 Donner Pass Road to pick up a parade entry form, volunteer or to discuss sponsorship opportunities.
