Special to the Sun

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Sierra Center For Change is offering educational workshops related to academic challenges for children, including teens, and their parents and/or caregivers in Tahoe Truckee.

Dr. Allyson Gilles and an Education Specialist with more than 20 years of experience conducting academic assessments and teaching children with and without learning challenges will present information related to the learning styles of parents and their children following a brief assessment. In These workshops will identify common academic difficulties for children and teens from first through 12th grade, offer practical solutions for homework and study habits and instructional tips that parents and children can use together to improve cooperation and academic learning.

Participants will be provided a comprehensive packet of information and practice tools to address these common areas of concern. Consultation with an education specialist following the workshops will also be available to address individual concerns.

Workshops will occur in a small group setting, so space is limited and pre-registration is strongly encouraged. If your child is struggling academically and you want to learn how you can help, then this workshop is for you. It is not too early to begin preparing for the upcoming school year.

The first workshop, Parenting Your Child For Academic Success will be offered on two different dates: July 29 or Aug. 1, 5:30-6:45 p.m. at Clever Minds Educational Services, 100900 Church St., Truckee.
