TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Forest Charter School student Daniel Ziegler was selected as a finalist in the USA Computing Olympiad and recently attended the USACO invitational camp for advanced training and competition to represent the USA in international computer programming contests. Clemson University in South Carolina hosted the final competition on its campus May 28-June 5.

As a freshman, Daniel competed in half a dozen extremely challenging three- and five-hour programming competitions in order to qualify for the finals. He is a student of none and the son of Johannes Ziegler and Swenja Ziegler of Truckee.

The top four finishers at the camp will go on to represent the United States against 75 other countries competing at the International Olympiad on Informatics, to be held Aug. 14-21 in Waterloo, Canada.

The USA Computing Olympiad is one of a number of extremely challenging academic competitions that culminate in an international contest. Other olympiads focus on biology, chemistry, computational linguistics, math and physics.
