2016 Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf season tees off at Old Greenwood

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The 2016 Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf season teed off at Old Greenwood on June 20, with 51 junior golfers competing in their respective age groups on a beautiful summer day.

The De Wit girls from Schaffer’s Mill golf course started the season on fire, with Sienna De Wit winning the 8-9 age group. Marli O’Neill and Maris Durant-Bender followed in second and third, respectively.

Stella De Wit won the girls 10-11 division with a score of 50. Two-time Cup winner Kenzie McCormick from Auburn came in second at 55, followed by Ryan Flynn at 57. Shannon Hugar was one stroke back in fourth place. Ella Williams came in fifth to get the last Cup point available in that age group.



Haley McCormick won the girls 12-14 group with a 51, followed by Sofia De Wit in second at 56.

Hunter Neave nabbed first place and five Cup points in the boys 8-9 age group while Myles Neadeau took second place.



Ethan Raymore from Tahoe Donner shot 57 for first place in the boys 10-11 group. Next in line were Ponderosa Golf Course’s Luke Brown and Reed Loper with scores of 60 and 61, respectively.

The boys 12-13 division was the most competitive age group with the most players. Isaac O’Neill won his first TTJGT event with a 40. Ethan Flynn took second at 44, followed closely by Gabe Smith and two-time Cup winner Jack Brown at 45.

Nicholas Asbra won the boys 14-15 competition with a 42. Murphy Scott of the Tahoe City golf team took second at 43. Connor Hipsley, also of Tahoe City, was third with a 45.

In the 18-hole competition, Aiden Mason of Squaw Valley led the way at 85. Airon Yarbrough and Sam Willis — who both competed on the Truckee High School golf team and recently played in the state championships — came in second and third, respectively, with scores of 89 and 90.

Along with the results for each event, there is also the heavily sought after season-long TTJGT Cup Winner for each age group. First through fifth place get points at every tournament.

At the end of the year, the Cup Winner is claimed by who has accumulated the most cumulative points for the season.
