Staff reports

The College Sports Information Directors Association announced its selections for the Verizon Academic All-District VII Team. Air Force senior Elia Burrill from Truckee earned second team honors.

Burrill will graduated from the Air Force Academy on May 28 with a B.S. degree in business management. Burrill was the only female athlete from the Academy to win this year’s award. After graduation, she will attend the University of Maryland on a two-year full tuition scholarship. She will attend pilot training following her graduation from Maryland.

Burrill graduates from the Academy a three-time most valuable fencer, a three-time Western Region champion and a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier in women’s epee.

While at the Academy, she led the women’s fencing team to four consecutive NCAA and Western Region championships from 2000 to 2003. She earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship award and was ranked in the top three of her class in overall military and academic performance.
