Alder Creek hoops lose close game

The Alder Creek Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team lost a tough road game, 24-21, in a rematch with the Carson Valley Tigers on Tuesday in Gardnerville.

The Cougars had the last shot from three-point land but it fell short. In a seesaw battle, the Cougars were 6-for-21 at the free throw line and couldn’t buy a basket in the third quarter. But their defense was tenacious as they mixed up their full-court and half-court press.

“I was very proud of the girls. They might have lost the game but their effort was fantastic,” said Alder Creek head coach Geoff Stephens. “Their basketball skills are maturing each week. I look forward to the day when they put it all together.”

The Cougars were lead by Megan Shalvis, with 11 points, while Natalya Jones was a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Kristina Tirman and Sarah Shontz played outstanding defense on the Tiger’s backcourt.

Alder Creek is now 3-3 in league.
