Alder Creek volleyball: Cougars win Tah-Neva title

Provided to the SunThe Alder Creek Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team is all smiles after winning the Tah-Neva Championship last Thursday. The team, back row left to right, is made up of Enya Ruttenberg, coach Erika Murphy, Lauren Peak, Elizabeth Costa, Emma Sheedy, Mackenzie Redner, Maison Power, Sydney Vandenberg and coach Marty Murphy. The Alder Creek Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team won the Tah-Neva Championship held at Truckee High School this past Thursday.

Entering the tournament ranked second with an 8-2 league record (13-5 overall), the Cougars rallied from a 24-19 deficit in the second game to defeat Carson Middle School 25-21, 26-24. Kaylee Neill came through for Alder Creek in the second game, serving seven straight points to close it out.

Alder Creek then defeated top-ranked Eagle Valley 25-19, 27-25 for the title. Sydney Vandenberg subbed in at 25-25 and finished with serves and setting.

MacKenzie Redner and Mason Power led the Cougars in kills for both matches.

The championship was the first in six years for the Cougars, as the last team to pull off the feat are now current juniors and seniors at Truckee High.
