A small but competitive field raced the Village Nordic Cup — formerly known as the Sugar Rush — at Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge Cross Country on Sunday.

Alex Taylor placed first among 34 skiers in the adult 10K, posting a time of 27:51, and was followed by Jeff Schloss (28:27) and Peter Mayfield (29:47).

Janelle Webb was the top woman and 10th overall with a time of 34:10, while Karen Seaward (41:18) and Maggie Fillmore (42:18) rounded out the women’s top three.

Frances Hamilton, Jakob Craig and Johanna Craig placed first through third, respectively, in the 5K junior race.

Next up on the Far West Nordic race calendar is the Sierra Skogsloppet at the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center this Monday.

The event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Truckee High and Alder Creek Middle School Nordic teams, begins at 10 a.m. and features four racing distances — 15K, 10K, 5K and 2K.

Cost is $30 for adults, $20 for juniors and $10 for youth. Registration is available at
