All-League basketball: Truckee’s Sydney Mock voted to first team

Truckee senior Sydney Mock does what she does best —slashes to the basket for an easy two. Mock was voted to the All-League first team and All-State second team.

The past three seasons, the key to defeating the Truckee girls basketball team was limiting the Wolverines’ sharp-shooting, slick-dribbling point guard — Sydney Mock. But that was easier said than done.

Despite opposing defenses game-planning around the Truckee standout, Mock always found a way to score — whether snapping the net from beyond the three-point arc, slicing through traffic for contested layups, or putting back offensive rebounds among post players half a foot taller.

Coaches awarded her accordingly. Mock was voted to the Northern Division I-A All-League first team, as well as the All-State second team.

Mock, a three-year varsity starter, capped her senior year with a 13.9-point scoring average, which ranked third in the league, while her 7.6 steals a game led the Division I-A North and South.

Freshman Leilani Otuafi of Fallon was voted league MVP while Fallon’s Anne Smith was named Coach of the Year.
