All-stars drop two

by staff

Over the weekend, the Truckee Little League Major All-Stars competed in the District One tournament in Sparks, losing two games.

In the first game vs. Sparks National, Truckee fell 2-0. Pitcher Josh Furr threw a one-hitter until the sixth inning, when Sparks hit a two-run homer for the win.

“The kids played great,” coach Barry Galvin said. “We just couldn’t get the key hit to break it open early.”

In the second game, Truckee lost 9-4 to a South Lake Tahoe team with hot bats. Long pitched four and a half innings while he, Jimmy Williams, J.R. Murphy, Richard Hess and Daniel Galvin each had hits for Truckee.

The Truckee team was in the game until a South Lake Tahoe grand slam put it away in the fifth.

“I couldn’t have been more proud of the way these kids came to play, coach Galvin said. “They played heads-up baseball in both games and showed that Truckee baseball quality is on the rise.”
