Alpine ski racing | Bryce Bennett races to silver in U.S. Champs downhill
COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. – Jared Goldberg and Jacqueline Wiles conquered the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain, Colo., on Friday to capture U.S. Championship downhill titles, while Bryce Bennett of Squaw Valley earned a silver medal.
Traditionally held in February, the premier speed titles were shifted to December in order to take advantage of the world-class facility at Copper, which is operated by the U.S. Ski Team until Dec. 15.
Bennett finished just a hundredth of a second behind Goldberg, and Thomas Biesemeyer took home the bronze, .43 seconds back. Katie Ryan and Anna Marno went 2-3 on the women’s side.
Keith Moffat of Squaw Valley finished ninth and Nick Daniels of Squaw Valley was 16th in the men’s race.
The remaining U.S. titles – super G, giant slalom, slalom and combined – will be determined March 20-24 during the Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships at Squaw Valley.
