ANDALO, Italy and#8212; World giant slalom champion Ted Ligety won the Alpine Rockfest by .02 on Friday to claim the 60,000 Euro top prize in Italy.
In addition to the big paycheck, which is worth more than $78,000 in U.S. dollars, Ligety received a champagne shower from teammate Bode Miller as Italian Giovanni Borsotti took second and Cyprien Richard of France third.
Truckee High grad Tim Jitloff was seventh and Miller 11th while Tommy Ford missed qualifying out of the round of 16.
The event was the continuation to the 2009 World Alpine Rockfest, where Richard defeated the best Olympic skiers in the world to win the largest single cash price in skiing history.
The pro giant slalom-styled race featured 20 racers. Athletes skied through four timed elimination rounds, dropping four skiers each round. It started with a round of 16 competitors, then 12, then eight, before ending with four competitors in the grand finale for the winner-takes-all prize of 60,000 Euros.
