The Tahoe-Truckee High School alpine ski teams combined forces to take another close win against North Tahoe last Thursday at Kirkwood, guaranteeing Truckee a first-place finish at the end of the season.

Defeating North Tahoe 354-347, the Wolverine skiers also notched wins against racers from Whittell, Incline Village and Douglas in the slalom-style event last week.

The win puts Truckee in a worst-case-scenario position of tying for first place with North Tahoe at the end of the season.

TTHS’s Quincy Young and Megan Martin were neck and neck in times, with Young (53.45) edging Martin (53.59).

Jenna Funston finished seventh with a time of 57.94.

Dan Gallaher returned from an absence last week to claim the second-place spot in the varsity boys’ race at 51.11.

In fourth place was Wes Thelen with a run of 55.17. Tyler Buschman was fifth, while Mike Thomas and Greg Hovorka were seventh and eighth, respectively.

“The real surprise has been Greg Hovorka,” said head coach Jeff Froelich. “He’s not in the Far West program and doesn’t get the additional training from that.

Truckee raced at Heavenly Wednesday.
