And this weeks winner is Me!
Week one of the NFLs regular season has come and gone. And while the Patriots are desperately trying to figure out how theyre going to win without Tom Brady, and Im still trying to figure out how my Seahawks lost to the Bills 34-10, the one thing I know for sure is Im sitting pretty on top of the Sierra Suns online UPickEm game.Oh yeah!Thats right baby. Yours truly praymore. You can check for yourself. Just logon to http://www.SierraSun.com/profootball and click on the Winners tab.To be fair, one player in the Sierra Suns game texasdeck had 11 points to my 10. But we limit the local winners to local players, and since texasdeck is apparently from Washington state, that makes me the champ.Actually, it appears that local players pub1952, birdy, FITZY and ngpaulson all tied me with 10 points. But when you figure out the tie-breaker method (detailed below) and you get my name at the top of the list. Numero uno.The good news for everyone else is week two of the NFL regular season offers up another chance to prove your NFL insight and outpick me and the rest of the Sierra Sun staff. And this week, weve even got a prize to offer up to the local winner a $25 gift certificate to the Blue Coyote Sports Bar (with locations in Truckee and Squaw Valley). And dont think that just because you missed out on the first week of the NFL season, you cant join the game now. There are weekly prizes available to whoever picks the most winners that week (even those new to the game). And the season-ending prize is determined based on your best 17 weeks (meaning they throw out your worst four weeks).Local winners must pick up their prize at the Sierra Sun office in Truckee, Calif. Contestants from out of the local area are welcome to play in the Sierra Suns UPickEm game; however, they will not be considered for local prizes. So join the game now. Sign-up at http://www.SierraSun.com/ProFootball.Then check out the Sept. 10 edition of the Tahoe World for a list of all the best spots to watch the games.

Fans pick who they think is going to win each game along with the score for the tie-breaker game. The computer then takes all the fans who are tied for most points for the week and:1. Subtracts what the fan chose as the score for the winning team from the actual winning teams score and squares this value.2. Subtracts what the fan chose as the score for the losing team from the actual losing teams score and squares this value.3. Adds 1 and 2 above together to get the fans score approximation.4. The fan with the lowest score approximation wins.If there is still a tie the computer then chooses a random winner from those who are tied.OK, so maybe you need to be a mathematician to figure out who wins each week. But fortunately, weve got the computers to tell us who is the reigning local champion. And according to the list of winners, that champion is yours truly.
