Athletes of the Week
Truckee High senior Andrew Mazzini and North Tahoe junior Laura Hansen are the Sierra Suns Athletes of the Week from Oct. 2-6. Mazzini, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound wingback, contributed to the Wolverines 54-21 victory at Fernley on Friday with two long touchdown runs. The senior broke away for a 72-yard score in the first quarter and followed with a 65-yard TD run in the second. Mazzini, who last played football as a freshman before this season, also ran for an 11-yard gain on Friday to finish with 148 yards on just three carries. Look for Mazzini to be a key component of Truckees offense as the Wolverines vie for a third consecutive Nevada 3A state championship. Hansen, a junior volleyball player and one of the Lakers leaders on both offense and defense, continued her quality play last week. Despite the Lakers three-game loss to Truckee, Hansen bagged three kills and seven blocks. She is the tallest player on the North Tahoe squad, and she is a force playing the net. Hansen is a steady and reliable player for North Tahoe, constantly performing to her potential. Look for great things from her for the rest of this season and next. The Sierra Sun names one Athlete of the Week from Truckee High and one from North Tahoe in the Sports & Outdoors section each Tuesday. Coaches, please submit the name of an athlete with details about his or her performance from the previous week. Truckee coaches can send their nominees to firstname.lastname@example.org. North Tahoe coaches can send theirs to email@example.com.
