Boys’ golf starts strong

In Yerington on Friday, Truckee High boys’ golf kicked off the season as they took third with 425 team strokes, just one stroke behind Lowry and five behind first-place North Tahoe’s 420. THS easily had the most consistent scores, the lowest was Kevin Waters’ 83 and the highest was Kaya Lampe’s 88.

For the rest of the golfers, Wes Hollabough shot an 84, Justin Draheim, Kyle Anderson and Doug Coombs, all three seniors, all hit 86.

Bishop Manogue took fourth with 433 team strokes, followed by Spring Creek and Yerington tied for fifth with 436 strokes each, then Dayton in seventh with 446, Whittell in eighth with 449, Fitz Ritz XXX(Jim, I’m waiting to hear from the coach. Who’s Fitz Ritz?) and Incline Village tied for ninth with 455 each, Fernley in 11th with 459 and Gerlach with 628. However, Gerlach only fielded four golfers and took a two 100 stroke penalties for their team score.

Truckee’s scores reflect on the program that coach Jeff Froelich is building, he said.

“I firmly believe that I have some guys that are going to be shooting lower scores in a couple weeks,” he said. “If we can just move those three or four less strokes, we’ll be doing great.”
