Boys’ hoops: Truckee wins two at Quincy tourney

Sierra Sun staff reports

Truckee senior Jamie Maehler and junior Chris Peeden led Truckee to victories over Quincy and Portola in the Quincy “Tip-Off” Tournament held from Dec. 2-4.

Peeden, a guard, had 17 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in the win over Quincy “Truckee’s first defeat of the California school in four seasons, said Truckee head coach Keith Crawford ” to help the Wolverines overcome a one-point halftime deficit. Peeden came back and scored 19 (three 3-pointers) in a 79-61 win over Portola on Friday.

From his post position, Maehler had 16 rebounds in each Truckee win and combined for 33 points in the two games. Maehler’s inside presence was sorely missed in a 46-26 loss against Lassen on Saturday, Crawford said. Maehler was absent because he was taking the SATs. The loss dropped Truckee’s record to 2-2 on the season.

Sophomore guard Drew Stewart had eight points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s loss versus Lassen. Junior Kyle Steverman had eight points in each of three games, including nine rebounds against Portola.

The Wolverines tip-off tomorrow (Dec. 7) at Pyramid Lake at 7:30 p.m.
