Boys’ tennis gearing up for competitive year

For coach Mel Adamski, her team needs to work on the basics before the year gets into full-swing.

“We’ll be working on some basic skills and some strategy,” she said. “There are some boys that want to challenge and move up on the roster.”

Senior Zack Sharp wants a little more out of this season than they got out of last year’s.

“We could do a little better this year,” Sharp said.

Jason Pawelczyk is optimistic but unsure of his role on the team.

“I’m not real sure yet,” Pawelczyk said. “Because I’m not real sure if I’ll be playing singles or doubles”

“But if I play singles I think I’ll probably do pretty good. And if I play doubles, I think we’ll do pretty good.”

In a scrimmage against North Tahoe on Aug. 29, Truckee started out slow but after the first round, they took over, breaking out the broom and dustpan as the boys swept all the matches in the final round.

The Wolverines won only one match out of six in the first round with Jason Pawealczyk and Peter O’Neil winning in doubles with a 6-4 set.

The second round, Truckee started to wake up a little, winnning a singles match with

Kaya Lampe in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4) and in doubles, Gabe cooper and Court Hickman walking away with a 6-2 win.

In the third round, the Truckee tennis team finally ate their Wheaties, sweeping all six matches, two by default.
