Bruce Ajari: Pleasanton’s Fly Fishing Show being held through Sunday
Gone Fishin'
With the weather this week looking less than stellar for getting out to fly fish, I thought I would remind everyone that the Fly Fishing Show will be going on Friday through Sunday in Pleasanton at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
This is a show dedicated solely to fly fishing. The show will have an Author’s Booth where books will be signed by the authors , seminars on tips, techniques and destinations, featured fly tyers, casting demonstrations, and classes with the experts, which is an instructional opportunity for a fee. Classes with the experts require registration in advance.
A Destination Theater is also being presented. Here, experts will fill you in on all the details on what to expect and how to be successful at some of the world’s best fly fishing destinations.
There are too many celebrities to name. A few of the bigger names are Barry and Cathy Beck, A.K. Best, Ed Engle, Simon Gawesworth, Gary Graham and Mike Lawson.
These shows have something for beginners and experts alike. Whatever you would like to learn more about in the sport of fly fishing is available at these shows. One of my favorite things to do is to see what is new and exciting in the way of equipment, learn about new destinations and watch the expert fly tyers. The show is a real learning experience.
Fly fishing is one of those sports where you will be constantly learning your entire life. There is always more to know, which makes this sport appealing to so many. I learn something new each time I attend one of these shows.
Whether you want to improve your casting, fly tying or learn more about how to catch fish in freshwater or saltwater, this show has something for you. If you want to travel, many of the exhibitors can show you some great fly fishing destinations.
The show hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission will cost you $15 for one day, $25 for a two-day pass, and $35 for a three-day pass. Children under 5 are free and under 12 kids are $2. Scouts in uniform are free, uniformed military are $10 and Family Day on Sunday you can get two adults and one or more kids into the show for $25.

So, if you are feeling housebound, you may want to take a drive down to Pleasanton and take in this show. Pleasanton is a great community and there are plenty of great places to stay in the area including the recommended Hilton Pleasanton at the Club located at 7050 Johnson Drive.
