Claesson is ruling the mats
Staff reportsBattling back from illness, Truckee High’s Buck Claesson continued to dominate on the mat as local wrestlers traveled to the Tonapah High School wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday. Claesson won his third tournament of the season but only after being sick for almost two weeks. “He has been so dominate up till this finals match,” said Ron Curtis, Truckee wrestling coach. “He has been sick for approximately a week and half. Having the previous weekend off due to snow along with a couple of snow days early in the week allowed him to get well, but he lost al little of his conditioning.” In Claesson’s first match he pinned Brady Eaton of Virgin Valley in the first period. He also pinned his next opponent, Jeff Shinohara of Durango High School. This set up a match with Pahrump’s Caleb Madosik. Going into the match Madosik’s record was 21 2. The match ended in Claesson’s favor, winning 63.Truckee’s Nathan Wrenn also had a very good tournament, Curtis said. Wrenn had five wins and one loss. Wrenn was winning the match 6 to 1 before he got brought down straight to his back and was pinned. Curtis said Wrenn was the aggressor and Hoggart was sitting back waiting for Nathan to come at him, and when he did Hoggart caught him and turned him to his back. “Nathan is starting to figure out what his nitch takedowns are and has started to apply them,” Curtis said. “He is wrestling much better than at the start of the season.” There were approximately 19 teams at the tournament, which means it gives the Truckee team a chance to wrestle against some of the southern schools before they meet at the states, Curtis said. Truckee will travel to Fernley High School for their tournament this Friday and Saturday. Wrestling begins 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
