Club volleyball nets players
Truckee’s Junior Club Volleyball recently wrapped its 1999 spring season with successful finishes.
Sanctioned by USA Volleyball, the two teams are headed up by Tahoe-Truckee High School volleyball coach Maggie Shane.
While members of the TTHS team participate in the club, others are welcome as well.
Playing in the Northern California Volleyball Association, Shane said the club was started to give Truckee players the chance to play year-round and to offer the sport to those who can’t play on the high school team.
“Our goal is to have fun, learn more volleyball and get a lot of court time,” Shane said.
This year, 20 girls participated, traveling all over Northern California. Both teams finished in the middle of the pack for each age group.
“We faced some pretty hard competition,” Shane said. “Some teams were headed for Junior Nationals and Junior Olympics, but we learned a lot and improved our skills.”
Shane said she hoped to expand the program by adding more coaches.
“We look forward to next year,” she said.
Coaches were Shane, Denise Parker and Dave Beckwith.
Club Truckee 18’s members include: Shannon Russ, Tessie Boreen, Abbey Whitfield, Molly Major, Lindsey Babb, Robyn Moore, Kendra Murphy, Sara Ford, Stacey Stirtz and Rachael Kuttel.
Club Truckee 16’s include: Dee Panziera, Tiffany Hopkins, Krystal Crawford, Lindsey Hollingshead, Tea Parry, Amy Eisenberg, Michelle Terwilliger, Kailyn Brown and Nicole Comeaux.
On Saturday and Sunday, June 26-27, the club will host a grass tournament at Surprise Stadium.
There will be doubles and four-person rounds.
