CNISSF snowboarding: Lakers win GS at Northstar
Led by a top finish from their girls’ squad, the Lakers captured first place overall in the second CNISSF race of the season Wednesday at Northstar.
North Tahoe narrowly won the giant slalom race with a combined boys’ and girls’ score of 495 to second-place Colfax’s 492. Placer placed third overall (434) and was followed by Davis (428), Nevada Union (423), Truckee (418) and Bear River (208).
Three Laker girls placed among the top 10, with Emily Ashbaugh taking third, Tara Turpin sixth and Jamie Gross ninth. They were trailed by teammates Taylor Lewis, who finished 11th, Kenna Bolt, who was 12th, and Lexie Schumann in 14th.
Truckee’s girls finished fourth as a team behind North Tahoe, Colfax and Placer as Ruby Wood led the Wolverines with a fourth-place finish. Shauna Day finished fifth for Truckee, while Ariah Curtis was 17th.
In the boys’ race, North Tahoe was third as a team behind Nevada Union and Colfax, and Truckee was sixth.
Ben Reilly led the Laker boys with a runner-up finish, while Griffin Lancaster placed ninth, Clayton Doyle 15th and Thomas Snow 18th. Ryan Cowie posted the Wolverines’ best results, finishing 13th, while Benny Rocha was 20th.
