CNISSF snowboarding | Murphy leads Wolverines with top finishes

Truckee sophomore Ryan Murphy led the Wolverines with a first- and second-place finish in a pair of CNISSF snowboard races — a slalom and giant slalom — at Alpine Meadows on Friday.
Murphy led a field of 49 boys in the GS race, while Truckee teammate Quinntin Butler finished runner-up to give the Wolverines a 1-2 sweep. Truckee’s Casey Curtis finished fifth.
Murphy posted a two-run combined time of 1:04.9 to Butler’s 1:05.9. Curtis finished in 1:08.9. Brandon Hayakawa led the North Tahoe contingent with a seventh-place finish in 1:09.7.
In the girls race, Nevada Union’s Faith Robischaud took the win in a time of 1:12.8, while Truckee senior Claire Roberts finished second in 1:15.3.
Truckee’s Sofie Maciel placed fourth in 1:18.7 and was followed by teammate Nicole Graham in 10th.
In the boys slalom, Murphy finished runner-up to Kane Tanner of Colfax, recording a time of 1:26.6 to Tanner’s 1:24.1. Curtis placed third with an identical time to Murphy’s, while Chase Rodriguez led North Tahoe in 22nd place.
Robischaud also won the slalom, giving her two wins on the day. Graham finished on her heels in 1:31.7 and Roberts rounded out the top three in 1:32.8. Maciel came in fifth, in 1:37.5.
The Wolverines (4,015 points), who are currently fourth behind Placer (4,382), Davis (4,257), Nevada Union (4,231), will look to defend their CNISSF state championship at Northstar on March 5-6.
