The Alder Creek Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team won two games this week to snap its two-game losing streak.

Meghan McDonald followed with six points. All 15 players saw action and contributed to the strong defensive effort.

Hosting Kingsbury Middle School on Wednesday, the Cougars controlled the game from the tip-off to the final buzzer, winning 28-14. Seven girls-scored- to provide a balance scoring attack.-

“Playing a zone most of the game was a challenge for the girls,” said Alder Creek head coach Geoff Stephens. “The girls like to play an up-tempo game. It was hard to keep their intensity up. Not pressing and playing zone can lull the girls to sleep.

“Each week the girls learn a bit more. I’m very pleased with their play at the mid-season point”.

The Cougars are 3-2 in league and 4-2 overall. The second round starts next week.

The Cougars travel to Gardnerville on Tuesday to play Carson Valley and then host Pau-Wa-Lu on Thursday.

Krysta Murphy score nine points to lead the Cougars. Katey Hamill, Kaite Churchman, Sydnie English, Kiersten Knoppel, Bridgette Lebel and Carly Maurer all chipped in baskets for the Lady Cougars.
