Cross Country: Runners individually stride into state

Staff reports

Running its way to a fifth-place finish in the Northern 3A boys cross country zone championships at Winnemuca, the Truckee Wolverines were unable to qualify for state competition as a team.

However, three runners from the both the boys’ and girls’ team did qualify as individuals to run against the best in the state. Finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:13, the Truckee’s Graham Herr led the way for the TNT team. Brian Beno delivered a speedy 18:42, to finish as the second Wolverine and 16th in the pack. Iran Manzano ran the course in 18:51 finishing 20th overall, followed by Andrew Van Blarigan who crossed the line in 18:58 for a 23rd place.

While not qualifying for the state meet in Southern Nevada, David DeSantes wrapped up the day for the Wolverine boys with a 40th place run.

The girls’ team successfully qualified all three individual runners for state as Betsy Van Blarigan took the helm. A time of 20:58 placed Van Blarigan eighth overall and in good position for this weekend’s state meet.

Finishing together with matching times of 25:20, Whitney Prosor and Kayla Evans finished 30th and 31st amongst the girls, respectively. The lone seven Wolverine runners will represent Truckee this weekend as the Wolverines run against Nevada’s best harriers in pursuit of individual medals.
